Oh, and that's not all! I have been pumping at night-time. Finn only nurses on one side at night, so I pump the other side and store it in the freezer the next day. I am putting about 6 or 8 ounces in the freezer every day! There should be close to 90 ounces in there, so far, and I fully intend on donating all of it. I cannot wait to help another baby get the very best.
Hi, so are you still on the reglan? I am just getting over being pretty sick and it made my supply dip. We were SO close to being back to exclusively breastfeeding and then this happened. Now he is refusing the breast again and I am feeling defeated. We could definitely be bf only again if he would just nurse more. I am making the milk. I have been getting about 3 oz a session until I got sick. That is enough for him to be on only bm but now we are back at a low point trying to recover. I am very happy for you and it looks like you and your baby are doing an amazing job!
ReplyDeleteHi Tanya,
DeleteMy prescription for Reglan lasted 20 days. It's recommended that Reglan isn't taken past 21 days because the side-effects can get pretty severe. My supply did plateau after stopping Reglan, but it didn't decrease at all like it does with a lot of mothers.
I'm glad that you're feeling better. Don't feel discouraged. You reached a full supply, and you can do it again. It will be so worth the effort. Believe in yourself and your baby. :) He will eventually get the hang of it again. :)
Thanks, today was better and I pumped 5 oz in one session. Then 3 oz the next. I will be taking home atleast 10 oz just from my work sessions. I am still on my Dom and it has seemed to help. I just need to get him nursing better. He did really well last night but he eats so much at night and hardly anything while away from me during the day. I am not sure my supply can handle that. He is eating I think about 5oz. total while away from me suring the day and then when he gets home he is eating 20oz between 6&10 pm. That is alot! And at night is when my supply is the lowest.
ReplyDeleteJust keep at it with nursing him at night. I'm sure that your supply will do it's job at matching his needs. :) You're doing so great, Tanya. Is your husband being more supportive, now that you're having all this success?
DeleteTrying to relactate myself and your story gave me inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThank you
You can do it! SOOOOO worth it. Don't give up!
DeleteThanks. Yesterday was day 11 and I got a total of 7 ounces. I can't commit to night pumpings, my husband does formula feeding at night and I need my sleep. Hopefully it doesn't limit my supply. I actually got up last night and did a random pumping, so ill get em in when I can...I guess.
ReplyDeleteHow did you handle all the pumps parts and cleaning? I have been keeping the parts in a ziplock bag in the fridge when I am not pumping and sterilizing once at night.
What about bottles and milk storage? I have my cold milk bottle, then a bottle to pour the warm milk in to cool before it is added to the cold milk.
Any easier ways or suggestions?
Right now I am taking fenugreek, lots of water, oatmea, and pumping every 2 hours getting 8 pumps in a day.
Thinking of making a blog of my own, it might motivate me to keep going...
Janel,
DeleteI definitely encourage you to keep a blog of your own. It was a great tool for me to keep track of my progress. It also helped me stay motivated, knowing that others out there knew about my goals.
That's very nice of your husband to take the feedings at night. When I was pumping around the clock, I would always just get up when my husband got up to feed the baby and I would pump then. Sometimes only once a night, sometimes twice. Now that I am exclusively breastfeeding, I sleep with my baby in bed and nursing him at night is much easier than getting up to pump.
When I was exclusively pumping for Finn, I would always put the milk in the fridge after pumping. When it was time for him to eat, we would take a bottle out and warm it in hot water. Sometimes I would just leave bottles out on the counter for long periods of time so that the warming process wouldn't take very long. Freshly pumped breast-milk can sit out on the counter for several hours.
How old is your baby? Had you stopped breastfeeding before? Do you nurse him at all?
If you make a blog, post the link here so that I can follow it. :)
DeleteShe is 3 weeks old. Don't nurse, I know I should but I won't know how much milk I am producing if I nurse right...? I thought if I pumped only I could measure exactly what was she is drinking...first baby so I have never breast fed. But my milk came in at 4 days and i was so fully engored I couldnt take it. Funny now I am wishing for more milk.
ReplyDeleteIt has been proven over and over again that babies can get more milk out of you than what you can pump. So she would be getting everything you can pump and then some! The general rule is that as long as she has plenty of wet diapers and is gaining well, then she is getting enough. When I switched over to exclusively breastfeeding, I had a lot of anxiety about the amount he was getting since I was so on top of it with pumping, but we're going strong and he's gaining well and we love breastfeeding!
DeleteI think you should give it a shot. :) Even if it's just every couple days, it might be fun to see if she will latch and nurse.
Another general rule I've heard is that if you want to maintain your supply, you pump 8 times a day. If you want to increase it, you pump 12. The more you pump and empty your breasts, the more you will produce.
Because she is so young, I believe you'll be able to build up to a full supply. Will you breastfeed her then? Breastfeeding is SOOOOO much easier than exclusively pumping!
Never made a blog before, here is the url...that is if I did it correctly...
